We have an exciting opportunity for an Educational Mental Health Practitioners to join the East County Durham Mental Health Support Team.
EMHPs have a key role as members of the Mental Health Support Team, who have the responsibility for delivering schools’ overarching approach to providing mental health and well-being support for children and young people.
Main duties of the job
EMHPs have the responsibility for delivering evidence-based intervention for children and young people in education settings with mild to moderate mental health problems.
To support and facilitate staff in education settings to identify and where appropriate manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing.
Work in effective, evidence-based partnership with children, young people, their families and their educators in the development of plans for the intervention and agreed outcomes.

Qualifications
Essential
- Successfully completed British Psychological Society (BPS) Accredited or Higher Education England (HEE) Approved academic course of study in line with the CYP IAPT Low Intensity National Programme and will be qualified as an Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP).
- And Professional registration as an Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) with an appropriate regulatory body (e.g. British Psychological Society (BPS) or British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP))
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
Essential
- Evidence of working with young people who have experienced emotional distress impacting on their mental health.
- Experience of delivering low intensity CBT interventions.
- Experience of working in an education setting
- Able to write clear reports and letters.
- Ability to manage own caseload and time.
- Able to deliver evidence-based LICBT interventions in line with protocols.
- Computer skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills.
- Competent in risk assessment.
- Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients.
- Demonstrates an understanding of how emotional distress may present in young people and impact upon their mental health.
- Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post.
Desirable
- Worked in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating clinical outcomes.
- Evidence of working in the local community.
- Experience of delivering psycho-educational groups and parent led CBT.
- Experience of delivering LI CBT interventions with children and young people
- Demonstrates knowledge of the issues relating to children and young people and the impact it can have on mental health.
- Awareness of alternative interventions that may need to be considered for young people experiencing distress.
