Job summary
As part of the Endoscopy Administration Team, the post holder will provide an effective, efficient and patient-focused referral and booking service. They will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the Endoscopy referral and booking function, overseeing the patient journey from referral through to confirmed procedure booking.
The post holder will proactively manage Endoscopy waiting lists, ensuring patients are prioritised according to clinical urgency, including suspected cancer, urgent and routine referrals. They will coordinate appointment scheduling, balancing clinical priority, patient choice and available capacity to maximise the use of Endoscopy lists.
The post holder will ensure referrals are processed accurately and appointments arranged in line with clinical pathways, Trust policies and agreed procedures. They will use initiative to manage competing priorities, including ensuring patient encounters are completed ahead of Endoscopy lists, identifying and resolving booking issues, responding to changes in clinical priority and capacity, and taking action to minimise delays.
The role requires regular liaison with consultants, nurses, administrative colleagues and other healthcare professionals to resolve booking queries and support patient care.
The post holder will support a high-quality Endoscopy service through effective management of referrals and appointments.

Main duties of the job
The Endoscopy team at Homerton Healthcare is looking for two Booking and Referral Coordinators for permanent posts. The post holders will work closely with consultants, nurses, secretaries, patients, general practitioners and other hospital staff.
The role will involve independently coordinating Endoscopy referrals from receipt through to procedure booking, managing waiting lists and prioritising patients according to clinical urgency. The post holder will coordinate appointments, balancing clinical priority, patient choice and available capacity, and will identify and resolve booking or pathway issues to minimise delays.
You will have strong administration experience, preferably within healthcare, and be highly organised with the ability to manage and prioritise your own workload. You will need to use initiative and judgement to manage competing priorities, respond to patient queries and escalate issues appropriately.
