Endoscopy Specialist: Sponsorship Available

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an Associate Specialist in Endoscopy to join a high-performing, JAG-accredited endoscopy service delivering diagnostic and therapeutic procedures across Wye Valley NHS Trust’s two-site model. Working within a multidisciplinary team of Gastroenterologists, Upper and Lower GI Surgeons, Clinical Endoscopists, specialist nurses and decontamination technicians, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred care for a population of 235,000 across Herefordshire and Powys.

Main duties of the job

The role is central to supporting the Trust’s commitment to high-quality endoscopy, with the expectation of undertaking five independent scoping lists per week, covering both upper GI endoscopy and lower GI endoscopy. The post holder will also play an active role in supporting the department’s training culture, including participation in the JETS training programme, and will contribute to the clinical supervision and development of Clinical Endoscopists. As part of ongoing service expansion, the successful candidate will be expected to undertake further training in Transnasal Endoscopy (TNE) with appropriate support and mentorship from senior endoscopists.

Education & Qualifications

Essential

• Primary Medical Qualification. Full GMC recognised medical degree.
• GMC Registration — Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.
• Postgraduate Training. Evidence of completion of core medical training or equivalent.
• Endoscopy Accreditation. JAG compliant certification in upper and lower GI endoscopy.

Desirable

• Higher Qualifications. MRCP, MS, MD, PhD or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
• Teaching Qualification. PGCert in Medical Education or equivalent.

Training

Essential

• Demonstrable training and competence in diagnostic OGD & demonstrable training and competence in flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy.
• Advanced Endoscopy Development. Willingness to undertake supervised training in TNE.
• Lower GI Endoscopy Training. Demonstrable training and competence in flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy.

Desirable

• JETS Training Experience. Prior involvement in JETS or similar structured endoscopy training programmes.

Experience & Knowledge

Essential

• Experience performing independent upper and lower GI endoscopy lists with KPI’s that match or exceed current JAG requirements.
• High Volume Endoscopy Services. Experience working within a busy, multidisciplinary endoscopy service.
• Clinical Supervision Experience. Experience supervising junior clinicians, trainees or clinical endoscopists.
• Independent Endoscopy Practice.
• Governance Awareness.
• Understanding of JAG standards, safety processes and quality assurance in endoscopy.

Desirable

• Experience in therapeutic procedures such as polypectomy or haemostasis.
