Job summary
This post is advertised following the successful progression of previous registrars into Specialist Training programmes.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and expanding ENT department, working at registrar level within a predominantly elective service. The role offers broad exposure to both adult and paediatric ENT across outpatient, inpatient, and surgical settings.
Outpatient activity includes scheduled clinics with dedicated capacity for Emergency Department referrals, alongside ad hoc urgent cases. Elective surgical work is primarily delivered through the Day Surgery Unit (DSU), with the post holder expected to participate in regular theatre lists (typically at least once per week) under consultant supervision.
Additional clinical opportunities, including weekend clinics and theatre lists, may be available via bank shifts.
The post holder will contribute to the provision of safe emergency ENT care and participate in the departmental on-call rota.
The Trust supports continuing professional development, annual appraisal, and revalidation. The department maintains close links with primary care, including GPwSI-led community ENT services in Hackney, and provides an electronic Advice and Guidance service to local GPs, to which the post holder will contribute on a designated weekday.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification
- MRCS (ENT) or equivalent surgical qualification
Desirable
- DO-HNS, FRCS (ORL-HNS), or equivalent higher surgical qualification
- Evidence of progression towards CCT in Otorhinolaryngology
REGISTRATION
Essential
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with licence to practise
Desirable
- Prior experience working in an ENT registrar or equivalent surgical training role within the NHS or comparable healthcare system
CLINICAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE
Essential
- Competence in basic ENT examination and procedures appropriate to registrar level
- Broad knowledge of general ENT conditions and emergency ENT presentations
Desirable
- Recent NHS experience within the last 3 years
- Experience managing ENT trauma and head and neck emergencies
CLINICAL GOVERNANCE, MANAGEMENT & AUDIT
Essential
- Understanding of clinical governance principles and their application in clinical practice
- Evidence of clinical audit and/or quality improvement activity
Desirable
- Evidence of participation in service development, redesign, or improvement projects
- Publications or presentations arising from audit or quality improvement work
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

- Flexibility and adaptability in response to changing clinical demands
