An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the innovative and expanding Mental Health Team at HMP Risley and Thorncross. We want to recruit an enthusiastic Health and Wellbeing Practitioner to help us transform the service we offer our residents.
HMP Risley and Thorncross is a Male Cat C PCOSO (prisoner convicted of Sexual Offence) with a Foreign National wing prison located in Warrington, Cheshire
The Mental Health service combines Primary and secondary care services across an integrated stepped care model to form an integrated mental health team.

Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded and innovative mental health service inside HMP Risley and Thorncross. The successful applicant should have a foundation knowledge of different models of mental health such as CBT, social and biopsychosocial.
The post holder will work with and support the mental health team. You will be proficient, competent and require minimum direct supervision in achieving the following:
- Working in close proximity with mental health service users and their carers where appropriate.
- Working flexibly and responsively to provide support and assistance to meet the assessed mental health needs of the service and service users.
- Working collaboratively across a range of disciplines to continuously develop expertise in assisting team members to achieve positive health care outcomes for service users.
- Promoting the health, well being and mental health of service users and carers.
- Promoting the development of the role to support and promote skill mix and workforce modernisation within their service areas.
- Facilitate and develop group therapies/activities
- Provide governance and support of the peer mentors within the team.
Person Specification
Education and Qualification
Essential
- Experience of working with offenders or providing community based social prescribing solutions
Desirable
- NVQ 3 or equivalent training Qualifications related to Psychological health and /depression /anxiety management or demonstrated experience.

Knowledge

- Extensive knowledge of Mental Health, Social Care and/or SMS
Desirable
- oKnowledge of specialist needs of service users within the prison environment and criminal justice systems.

- Ability to facilitate groups
- Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of people in distress and manage occasional highly charged emotive situations
- Computer literacy

- Supervisory management skills with junior staff.
- Ability to write reports and present information in a concise way.
