Job Summary

A vacancy has arisen for a Healthcare Science Associate (Band 4) to join our team in the Chester & Wirral Microbiology Service based at the Laboratory in Bromborough, Wirral.

Core hours of work will be 09:00 to 17:30, Monday to Friday. Weekend working is typically 1 in 4. Night shifts 8pm – 8am towards the existing 24/7 rota are contractual.

You will have attained a minimum of NVQ Level 4 in Biomedical Science, a Foundation Degree in Biomedical Science or a full BSc relating to biology or chemistry.

Good communication skills and an excellent telephone manner are advantageous. Current laboratory experience essential.

Experience in microbiology or molecular biology would be advantageous but not essential as training will be provided.

 

Main duties of the job

The post-holder is an experienced laboratory support worker and performs scientific investigations in the diagnosis of infectious diseases and colonisation with potential pathogens.

Undertaking complex laboratory support duties and testing that does not involve interpretation.

The Healthcare Science Associate may be responsible for day to day organisation, under indirect supervision, of a section of work and will be expected to supervise and train less experienced Healthcare Science Associates and Healthcare Science Assistants.
