An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the blood sciences team at Northumbria Healthcare as a Healthcare Science Associate.

Healthcare Science Associate works as part of the pathology team. They will be responsible for performing a range of scientific procedures on biological samples contributing to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases, and the investigation of other pathological processes. This role contributes to the production of accurate and timely results, whilst supporting the ongoing development of pathology services.

Main duties of the job

Healthcare Science Associate works as part of the pathology team. They will be responsible for performing a range of scientific procedures on biological samples contributing to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases, and the investigation of other pathological processes. This role contributes to the production of accurate and timely results, whilst supporting the ongoing development of pathology services.

Laboratory investigations will be carried out in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), with all work carried out to specified standards as laid down by United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). This role could be across all sites within the Trust.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • 5 GCSE`s level A – C or 9-4 (must include Maths and English)
  • IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part II, Foundation Degree Certificate or equivalent qualification e.g. HND/HNC

Desirable

  • Evidence of CPD

Experience and knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge and understanding of the role of Pathology in the diagnosis and treatment of disease

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in a Pathology laboratory
