Job summary
The UHNM are looking to employ and enthusiastic and motivated individual who is qualified in GI Physiology as a Clinical Scientist/GI Physiologist. The applicant is expected to be competent and qualified (or at the end of their training such as STP) as a registered Clinical Scientist in GI Physiology with the HCPC or as an Independent Practitioner by the Association of GI Physiologists and registered with the AHCS. The GI Physiology unit is a small team of members including a Clinical Scientist and several Endoscopy support workers. The service provides a variety of upper and lower gastrointestinal investigations including high resolution manometry, 24hr pH and Impedance monitoring, hydrogen breath testing, anorectal manometry and we offer a comprehensive biofeedback therapy service for a range of defaecatory disorders.
The department is actively involved in MDT meetings including Pelvic floor MDT twice monthly and the Upper benign MDT once a month.
The applicant will be encouraged to progress themselves and will be supported to attend training and meetings to facilitate their professional development.
The service sits within a busy endoscopy unit and supports Gastroenterology Consultants, upper GI surgeons, Colorectal Consultants, Gynaecology Consultants and Respiratory Physicians. We also provide diagnostic testing to hospitals outside the Trust.
Main duties of the job
Conduct a wide range of physiological measurement investigations as offered by the department including, but not limited to, oesophageal manometry, oesophageal pH impedance studies, hydrogen and methane breath testing, anorectal physiology and wireless pH monitoring.Support the provision of comprehensive bowel behavioural therapy within the pelvic floor multidisciplinary team to include patient education sessions, advice and medication review, counselling, and computer aided biofeedback techniques.To provide analysis and high-quality diagnostic reports of investigations and the appropriateness of tests.To work with multidisciplinary teams reporting test results andcontributing to discussions on patient management and care pathways.

Qualifications
Essential
- Qualified Clinical Scientist in GI Physiology through the NHS Clinical Scientist Training Programme or GI Physiologist STP Equivalence with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS)
- Registered with The Health and Care Professions council (HCPC)
- Registered Physiologist with the RCCP
- Member of the Association of Gastro-Intestinal Physiologists
Experience
Essential
- Practical and theoretical knowledge of the specialist area plus working knowledge of associated physiological measurements disciplines.
- Experience in performing, analysing and reporting on a wide range of upper and lower GI physiology investigations
- Specialist knowledge of clinical area e.g. GI Physiology
- Significant experience as a Trainee or Junior Clinical Scientist/Physiologist
Desirable
- Knowledge of clinical governance and research methodology
- Experience of teaching and training a wide range of background and skill groups.
