Job Summary

Milton Keynes NHS Talking Therapies (MKTT) is seeking to recruit two Trainee High Intensity Therapists.

Applicants must be available to commence employment at the beginning of September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity to train with the University of Reading and join NHS Talking Therapies MKTT. The successful candidates will deliver High Intensity interventions in line with National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines.

You will work with patients who have a range of mild to moderate anxiety and depression, and common mental health problems for which high intensity psychological interventions are demonstrated to be clinically effective.

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced individuals to train in delivering High Intensity interventions within a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework. Successful candidates will develop skills in delivering evidence-based CBT interventions, monitoring clinical outcomes, and contributing to the ongoing development of MKTT treatment pathways and service delivery.

This is an academically demanding training role within a fast-paced clinical environment. Applicants should be target-driven, clinically motivated, and able to contribute to maintaining and improving performance against local and national KPI’s.

Main duties of the job

As a Trainee High Intensity Therapist, you will:

  • Undertake training in High Intensity CBT interventions as part of a postgraduate programme
  • Deliver evidence-based psychological therapy to adults with common mental health difficulties
  • Manage a defined clinical caseload within a stepped care model
  • Use routine outcome measures to monitor treatment progress and effectiveness
  • Participate in clinical supervision, academic teaching, and reflective practice
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical records in line with Trust standards
  • Contribute to audit, service development, and quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

Essential

  • A recorded/registered qualification in one of the following at graduate level in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or within a psychological therapy.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a stepped care service for anxiety and depression.

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of working in mental health services
  • Ability to meet agreed/specified service targets
  • Ability to manage own caseload and time
  • Demonstrates high standards in written communication
  • Able to write clear reports and letters to referrers

Desirable

  • Experience of working in Primary Care Services
  • Worked in a service where agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes

Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care
  • Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to evaluate and put in place the effect of training
  • Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients
