Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Higher Assistant Psychologist to join the adult acute inpatient service based at Foss Park Hospital, York. Foss Park Hospital is a purpose-built, mental health hospital providing a range of services for working age adults and older persons. The hospital has numerous vocational and therapeutic areas in a friendly, caring, and therapeutic environment. The site provides inpatient care across four wards – two wards for working age adults (age 18-65) and two wards for older adults. The advertised post is specifically for working across each of the 18 bedded male and female working age adult wards (Ebor and Minster). This is a full-time, permanent position.
Main duties of the job
The broad remit of the role involves working as part of the multidisciplinary team, supporting the assessment and formulation process, and delivering psychologically informed wellbeing interventions (both individual and group). The post holder will receive weekly clinical supervision from a consultant clinical psychologist.

Qualifications
Essential
- Degree in psychology
- Eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
- Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
Desirable
- Post-graduate training in a relevant area of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
Experience
Essential
- Experience working as an Assistant Psychologist
- Experience working with people with mental ill health difficulties (paid or voluntary)
- Previous involvement in clinical audit, research or service evaluation.
- Experience using statistical software packagese.g. SPSS
- Experience of using psychometric assessments.
Knowledge
Essential
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental ill health or learning disabilities.
- An understanding of the application of psychology to health care.
- Understanding of confidentiality.
- Knowledge of the British Psychological Society Code of Conduct.
Skills
Essential
- Ability to communicate information (verbal and written) effectively
- Ability to analyse data and present information in a meaningful way
- Ability to organise own workload and work autonomously
