This is an exciting new role created to support the development of the Parkinson’s Disease treatment pathway within the Trust.

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Advanced Physiotherapist to join our multidisciplinary team and play a pivotal role in enhancing Parkinson’s Disease care. Working alongside a Specialist Nurse Practitioner, you will contribute to reducing hospital admissions, leading an enhanced physiotherapy service and ensuring the delivery of expert, evidence-based care.

  • HCPC-registered Physiotherapist with significant experience in neurology, rehabilitation, or movement disorders.
  • Expertise in managing complex cases, with a strong understanding of Parkinson’s Disease and its impact on function.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist physiotherapy assessment, management and treatment for people with Parkinson’s Disease from diagnosis to long-term care.
  • Lead service development to expand and enhance physiotherapy provision in line with NICE guidelines and best practices.
  • Work within the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless, patient-centred care across the system.
  • Reduce hospital admissions related to falls in Parkinson’s Disease patients.
  • Develop and streamline the therapy pathway, ensuring patients are seen by the right person, in the right place, at the right time.
  • Contribute to audit, evaluation, and research to continuously improve service delivery.
  • Act as a role model for advanced clinical skills and leadership, providing guidance and support to junior staff.
  • Deliver regular profession-specific clinical training, support staff education and mentor students.
  • Engage with patients and families to gather feedback and enhance patient experience.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registered
  • Evidence of CPD (Portfolio)
  • Member of CSP
  • Evidence of post graduate training/qualification relevant to clinical area

Desirable

  • Recognised teaching/mentoring course

Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience in an acute setting
  • Teaching/mentoring experience
  • Experience of presenting complex data to a range of different audiences

Desirable

  • Evidence of participation in audit or research
  • Experience of working collaboratively with community teams

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Excellent Parkinson’s Disease knowledge
  • Sound knowledge of interventions relevant to rehabilitation in Parkinson’s Disease
  • Ability to lead and influence change in local pathways
  • Able to work autonomously and as part of a team

Desirable

  • Develop skills to provide comprehensive Parkinson’s disease advice and education, working in partnership with external partners and also the multi-disciplinary Parkinson’s service whilst supporting and promoting education of staff

  • Good verbal and written English which can be evidence at interview or IELTS level 7 or above (6.5 prior to 01/02/07)
