There will be opportunity for development of acute skills work across the renal and medical HDU with close liaison with ITU; invaluable experience applicable across all medical specialties

We provide a wide range of Nephrology outpatient clinics and teaching opportunities within this setting.

You will gain the opportunity to train in invasive procedures in a supportive environment with hands on consultant supervision and training.

Cross site: Includes a requirement to work across other UHDB sites should the need arise.

Main duties of the job

This post specifically will have the following responsibilities:

– Assessment of clinically unwell patients during haemodialysis sessions- Working alongside the renal registrars to admit, clerk and manage new admissions to the renalunit including renal high dependency – Working alongside the dialysis nursing staff and other professionals to optimise care of dialysispatients – Developing skills in dialysis access (temporary and permanent vascular catheters and peritonealdialysis catheters)- Assessment of new dialysis patients to prescribe dialysis with support of senior colleagues

Qualifications

Essential

• MBBS/MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
• Life Support certification – ALS

Desirable

• MRCP Part 1/2/PACES

Eligibility

Essential

• Full GMC Registration with a license to practice at time of submitting application
• A minimum 2 years post qualification medical experience in the UK or abroad, including experience in Acute Medicine or Medical specialties
• Recent paid 6 months experience in NHS hospitals – not including clinical attachments/obseverships
• Completed at least two years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis).
• Evidence of up to date clinical knowledge in renal and internal medicine specialty and evidence of an understanding of its application

• Experience at foundation level

• Experience in making clinical decisions & managing risk.
• Experience and confidence of NHS systems and practices

Desirable

• Previous renal experience or experience in another medical specialty with multi-disciplinary working
• Evidance of ability to insert temporary haemodialysis catheters

Communication Skills

• Experience of formal presentations
• Evidence of ability to work as part of an MDT, sharing administrative duties

Desirable

• Evidence of leadership skills

Teaching Experience, Audit and Research

Essential

• Evidence of knowledge and experience of teaching clinical skills

Desirable

• Any teaching courses or qualifications.
• Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements relevant to the specialty
• Evidence and experience of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students
