Junior Clinical Fellow in Surgical Specialties

Job summary

The post will be a part of the Surgical Junior Doctor tier at University Hospital Llandough, taking a share of the on call duties and gaining exposure to a wide range of surgical conditions including Orthopaedics, Breast, ENT, Max Fax, General Surgery, Urology and Gynaecology, while being fully supported by an appropriate junior and senior team.

The posts are available from 7th August 2026

This will include access to clinical supervision as well as internal educational and training opportunities. The successful applicant will gain experience across a range of general surgical ward areas. The post has a core service purpose to support the safe delivery of care to the wards and acute unselected surgical on call rota.

Exposure to a specialty at F3 grade can help to round out a CV, meet portfolio requirements & clarify the level of interest in obtaining a training post in a specialty.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise

Desirable

  • Intercalated Degree
  • MSc or PhD
  • Academic excellence (prizes, merits, distinctions etc.)
  • MRCS (UK) Part 1

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical experience
  • Evidence of participation in Research and Clinical Governance

Desirable

  • Evidence of interest in day and short stay surgery

Skills

Essential

  • Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working
  • Effective and demonstrable communication skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
  • Up to date with current medical practices
  • Ability to take appropriate clinical decisions when necessary
  • Research and interests relevant to specialty
  • Values aligned to those of the Health Board
