An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone with good knowledge of Microbiology and excellent IT knowledge to join our dedicated Laboratory IT team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Microbiology services across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology to maintain, troubleshoot and develop the IT systems in that area, in particular the LIMS systems and the associated interfaced laboratory instruments.
The successful candidate will work alongside other Laboratory IT Specialists, Application Developers and Laboratory IT Support staff to support the staff and services of South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:
- Work as part of the SYBP Laboratory IT Team designing, developing, implementing and maintaining systems, interfaces and data transfer systems to support the core business of the directorate.
- Be the designated IT Subject Matter Expert in relation to a specific clinical laboratory discipline (Microbiology), understanding the requirements and processes in that area, leading on projects within own area of expertise and specialism.
- Be responsible for the maintenance of SYBP IT and data transfer systems, both in-house developed software and externally procured software.
- Consult with SYBP IT Departments where appropriate, to ensure that security standards are maintained and that systems are introduced and supported via approved change control methods.
- Provide IT support to SYBP staff to encompass all platforms, systems and associated connectivity and software packages regularly communicating highly complex information to individuals or groups in a way in which they can understand.
- Provide support to external users related to connectivity and access to Laboratory results, both within SYBP and to external users.
- Enable, promote and support the effective use of data, information, knowledge and technology to support and improve health and health care delivery

Qualifications
Essential
- Educated to degree level in relevant discipline.
- Post-graduate diploma or equivalent experience.
Desirable
- Formal qualification in LEAN management and change techniques.
- Formal qualification in Project management (PRINCE 2 practitioner) or equivalent experience..
- Qualification in advanced IT Use (e.g. Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS): Excel), ISEB Certificate in Data Management Essentials or equivalent experience.
