Job Summary

We are looking for a high calibre individual to take us on the next exciting stages of our data and analytics development journey.

We will want you to make a big difference to the quality and range of information and analysis that is available to our clinicians and researchers, building on the UCLH vision of itself as a research hospital that has translational data science at its heart.

Main duties of the job

You will have deep knowledge of how to manage data in a complex organisation, using it to produce analytics that add substantial value.

A proactive and an inspiring leader, you will help all our information professionals and clinical informaticists to work collaboratively and innovatively towards a common goal: giving clinicians, researchers and managers the ability to get at the data and information they need, when they need it.

You will be highly numerate. Sophisticated in your communication, you will be very comfortable describing complex concepts in straightforward ways to senior audiences. You will be known for delivering results across a demanding agenda.

Substantial NHS experience will be an advantage, although we would also be interested in hearing from proven high achievers who want to bring relevant experience from other sectors and can learn fast. It will also be an advantage if you have worked in a research environment.

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

  • Masters degree level or equivalent professional experience within a healthcare information environment
  • Expert understanding of data management and data warehousing in a complex organisational environment
  • Expert understanding of data within a healthcare setting

Experience

Essential

  • Significant leadership experience in senior information management role in a large and complex environment (doctorate level or equivalent)
  • Proven deep and varied experience of working with data warehouses, business intelligence and analytic systems
  • Proven track record of delivery at a senior level in a large complex service focused organisation, including staff management and change management
  • Experience in handling and provision of clinical and research data
  • Experience of designing and implementing data quality frameworks
  • Experience of using Epic BI stack
  • Experience applying software engineering tools and processes including version control, baseline management, issue management, continuous integration, data management and self-service analytics tools

Desirable

  • Significant leadership experience in senior information management role in an NHS or other healthcare environment (doctorate level or equivalent)
  • Proven experience of using Microsoft BI stack, including SQL Server, Power BI, MS Excel, MS Access, Fabric
  • Experience of a modern Java enterprise stack including messaging & API technologies, streaming, concurrent processing.
  • Experience of Azure cloud technologies (incl. IaaS, datastores, container management and analytics frameworks).

  • Deep knowledge of data warehousing, management and processing principles
  • Deep knowledge of architectural patterns and processes related to systems integration, workflows and automation.
  • Ability to interrogate databases
  • Ability to interpret complex data and lead the development of analytical methods to this end
  • Ability to interpret complex requirements and map these to workflows, user-interfaces and reports that service a wide range of stakeholders.
  • In-depth understanding of data quality issues and how these relate to the organisation as a whole
