The post holder will ensure specialist or complex IM&T information is processed in accordance with policies and procedures. Contribute to meeting strategic data and analytics planning and assist with the delivery of data, reporting and analytical products, with some small team leadership/mentorship aspects.

The Trust is redeveloping its data, reporting, and analytics infrastructure, moving to a cloud-based Lakehouse solution hosted on Databricks with Power BI for presentation.

We’re looking to add to the team to support this development work, with the successful candidate being a technical lead and mentor for data skills within the team and wider-organisation as it seeks to efficiently meet requirements and improve ability to derived value from its data.

Main duties of the job

  • Oversee data flow functions including procedure setting and review. Investigate and implement resolutions or provide guidance on appropriate corrective actions when standard operations are interrupted.
  • Contribute to design and co-lead on development cycles to ensure high quality production of automated data flows and resulting data assets.
  • Administrate on-premises and cloud-based information management and reporting systems. Co-lead on planning and development of data tools and product use.
  • Be a subject matter expert within the team and wider organisation regarding data management, data analysis, and associated software and system use. Be a mentor to team colleagues ensuring best practice is established and shared across the team.
  • Lead on activities that develop and maintain transform data into valuable insights and presentation through a range of presentation tools and advanced techniques.

  • Be a mentor for data analysis and data processing techniques, coaching, and advising team members and wider staff on the use of data tools.
  • Interpret highly complex and sensitive information and provide complex information where there is a significant barrier.
  • Communicate complex and technical information and language simply and accessible for non-technical audiences, including to a broad or large group of staff members.

Analytical and Judgemental Skills

  • Analyse, investigate, and resolves complex data problems, selecting an appropriate solution where there are several options in the absence of precedence or established process.

  • Assist with recruitment and day to day management of the Data Engineering team. Including planning and prioritising workload when required.

Responsibilities for Information Resources

  • Responsible for maintaining multiple information and reporting systems, cloud and on premise based, used for integration, data management, general reporting, and analytics.
  • Occasionally configure and develop other cloud infrastructure as required.
  • Support the ongoing development and implementation of the data warehouse.
  • Reverse engineer data sources and create data models to inform translation to analytics data model to meet Trust user requirements.
  • Design, build and test data products based on feeds from multiple systems using a range of different storage technologies and/or access methods. You understand how to create repeatable and reusable products.
  • Contribute to and maintain the data warehouse model and loading processes.
  • Create and maintain objects for information presentation and reporting.
  • Routinely monitor data warehouse integration processes resolving issues efficiently.
  • The role involves processing sensitive patient information.

Person Specification

Qualification and Knowledge

Essential

  • Post-degree level qualification in the relevant area, or equivalent experience and relevant specialist knowledge.
  • Knowledge of NHS terminology and healthcare information concepts.

Desirable

  • Data modelling techniques and their application.
  • Awareness or emerging trends and techniques relating to data management & processing for analytics.

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of working in the field where the post is held.
  • Writing complex and easy-to-read SQL statements, and how implementation might impact performance.

Desirable

  • Working with Spark-based information management systems, or other similar data systems.
  • Data Integration systems and techniques

Skills and Competencies

Essential

  • Advanced SQL programming, including DML and DDL.
  • Python and/or PowerShell.
  • Logical approach to technical problems with attention to detail and numeracy skills.

Desirable

  • Azure or other cloud infrastructure concepts.
  • Different data formats and transmission technologies and their application.
  • Work to deadlines and prioritise work accordingly.
