Job summary

We are seeking a Locum Consultant in Dermatology to join our friendly and supportive team on a 12-month contract. The department includes 11 consultants, a consultant/associate specialist, two specialist registrars on the Yorkshire rotation, hospital practitioners, a Physician Associate, GP trainees, Advanced Nurse Practitioners in skin cancer and specialist nursing teams.

The service has dedicated dermatology theatres and facilities for PDT, phototherapy and patch testing. Nurse-led services include dermatological surgery, leg ulcer and lymphoedema management, cryotherapy, drug monitoring, and skin cancer diagnosis and follow-up. We work closely with other specialties, including Maxillofacial Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Rheumatology.

The post is primarily based at York Hospital, with services also delivered at peripheral sites. An active teledermatology service supports advice and guidance and referral triage. Inpatient services are provided at York and Scarborough Hospitals through a weekday daytime on-call rota, supported by electronic referrals and remote review where appropriate.

The role includes general and specialist outpatient clinics, surgical lists and participation in the consultant on-call rota. Outpatient clinics will be held at York Hospital and one peripheral East Coast hospital.

Main duties of the job

This role provides general/specialist outpatient clinics and surgical lists plus contributing to the consultant on call rota. Outpatient clinics are at York Hospital and one peripheral East Coast hospital.You will join a well-established and collaborative department, focused on excellent, person-centred care. Within the Trust we are part of Clinical Support and Cancer Services Care Group, which includes most specialist medicine services. We have a Clinical Director responsible for all services.Individual job plans will be discussed with the post holder on appointment, with the Clinical Director to finalise the job plan which will become operational on commencement. All jobs’ plans are agreed in line with the Trusts Job Planning Principles.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Eligible for full GMC registration with license to practice.
  • MRCP or equivalent qualification.

Desirable

  • MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate research
  • Substantive NHS experience

Clinical practice/ competence

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and skill.
  • Experience of undertaking audits and presenting their findings
  • Able to critically review and apply research to clinical situations.

Desirable

  • Experience of setting up and/or developing clinical services.

Leadership & Team Work

Essential

  • Ability to organise and manage the department targets
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Able & willing to take on leadership roles.
  • Ability to work in partnership to deliver a patient centred service.
