Locum Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology

Fixed Term Post – Full Time: 10 PAsWhipps Cross University Hospital

Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust, is seeking to appoint a full-time Locum Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology to join our established team.

The successful applicant will work alongside five experienced Diabetes and Endocrinology Consultants based at Whipps Cross University Hospital. The post offers a varied and rewarding role, contributing to both inpatient and outpatient services.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

Provision of inpatient care for patients with diabetes, metabolic, and general medical conditions

Delivery of outpatient clinics for patients with diabetes and endocrine disorders

Participation in the general medical on-call rota

Engagement in departmental clinical, educational, and governance activities, including:

    • Weekly radiology/clinical meetings
    • Weekly journal club
    • Monthly governance meetings

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP or Equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration

Desirable

  • Appropriate Higher Degree e.g. an MD, PHD or equivalent

Academic Achievements

Essential

  • Good track record of research in a related field

Desirable

  • Evidence of active research with evidence of winning grants or publishing peer reviewed articles
  • Evidence of giving successful presentation

Experience

Essential

  • Broad experience in Diabetes & Endocrinology clinics and ward work
  • Excellent clinical skills
  • ALS certificate

Desirable

  • Experience in conducting clinical trials

Knowledge

Essential

  • Detailed knowledge of Diabetes and Endocrine and of the specialist skills required for this post
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients
  • Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life-long learning

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team – clinical and management
  • Ability to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff

Desirable

  • Ability to manage staff and resources effectively
  • Ability to communicate effectively with GPs and other professionals in hospital and community
  • DAFNE training including course observation

Management and Audit

Essential

  • Interest in Medical Audit

Desirable

  • An understanding of techniques to improve efficiency and productivity of clinical processes

Personal Circumstances

Essential

  • Will live 30 minutes of Whipps Cross Hospital
