An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and committed individual to join the ENT team at King’s Mill Hospital, part of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

You will be employed on a fixed term basis by the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and will be based at King’s Mill Hospital where you will be part of a team providing clinical services to the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and surrounding population of 500,000.

Main duties of the job

A Locum Consultant in Otolaryngology specialising in Head and Neck Cancer for Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the King’s Mill Hospital is required. The post holder may be required to undertake sessions at Newark Hospital.

The appointee will join an existing team of consultants providing a comprehensive service to the western part of North Nottinghamshire and, in particular, the residents of Mansfield, Ashfield, and Newark Districts. This is an enthusiastic department with all Consultants providing general ENT services with specialist interests. The post holder will demonstrate a wide range of skills and will be asked to work flexibly within the department.

Candidates for the post must be registered with the GMC at the time of appointment and have Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination (FRCS ORL-HNS) or equivalent.

Person Specification

Clinical experience

Essential

  • Experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the job plan
  • Ability to maintain clinical credibility and authority with a multi-professional team including senior trainees
  • Completion of higher surgical training in ENT
  • Substantial experience in head & neck cancer surgery
  • Experience managing complex oncology patients
  • Experience participating in MDTs

Desirable

  • Five years supervised training in an appropriate SpR equivalent training programme
  • Fellowship in Head & Neck Oncology
  • Research publications

Management & administrative experience

Essential

  • Ability to effectively organise and manage clinical workload

Desirable

  • The potential to develop management and leadership skills

Teaching

Essential

  • Experience of teaching, training and supervising junior doctors, medical students and allied healthcare professionals
  • Ability to lead clinical teams

Desirable

  • Demonstrable ability as a teacher with evidence of training for the role

Research

Essential

  • Ability to convert research evidence into clinical practice

Desirable

  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals

Qualifications

Essential

  • (FRCS ORL-HNS) or equivalent
  • Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification Higher degree (MD/PhD)

Desirable

  • Postgraduate thesis
  • Completed fellowship programme
  • An appropriate higher degree

Other

Essential

  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
