Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to recruit a Locum Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Successful candidates will join a team of 25 Consultants. The Directorate provides services across 3 hospital sites within the county of Worcestershire. The candidate will benefit from working within a friendly and experienced team.

As a Trust we have been actively involved in developing the training program for students from the Three Counties Medical School based in Worcester which opened in September 2023. We also have a long-established role in training medical students from the University of Birmingham and undergraduates from the University of Warwick.

Main duties of the job

This appointment is for a 6 month Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.

It would be beneficial if the successful applicant was able to offer skills in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology and advanced labour ward skills are essential. The applicant should have the appropriate training and experience to fulfil the requirements of this post and be on the Specialist Register.

Applicants should have evidence of advanced training and experience in Obstetrics and/or Gynaecology including 2 ATSMs or Subspecialty training. Previous experience at Consultant level would be beneficial.

The post holder may run joint clinics/theatre sessions with another consultant colleague in the same area of special interest.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

This post comprises 10 Programmed activities: 8 direct clinical care and 2 supporting professional activities.

The successful applicant will be asked to participate on the Obstetric on-call rota.

By working in teams of consultants, the operational principle that we aim to achieve is for another consultant to re-use patient contact sessions that would otherwise be cancelled or remain uncovered due to leave or other agreed reasons for absence.

The successful candidate must have extensive experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Applicants should possess the MRCOG or equivalent and Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent and be on the GMC Specialist Register.

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in None
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • 2 ATSM or equivalent

Desirable

  • Experience at consultant level

Teaching Experience

Essential

  • Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines
  • Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates

Desirable

  • Ability to supervise postgraduate research

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (or expected within 6 months of interview date) via

  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively

  • Ability to manage and lead the specialty firm and multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit

Desirable

  • Ability to manage and lead specialist unit and working parties as appropriate
  • Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making
  • Familiarity and experience of MDT meetings and working

Research Experience

Essential

  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
  • An awareness of current specialty specific developments and initiative

Desirable

  • Publications in relevant peer- reviewed journals in the last 5 years
  • Evidence of having undertaken original research
