Job summary
This is a locum full-time (10PA) post in paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes based at St. George’s University Hospital.
The postholder will share all duties involved in running this busy paediatric endocrine and diabetes service which receives tertiary, secondary and primary care referrals.
Main duties of the job
Applications are invited for a dynamic, enthusiastic consultant paediatrician to join the Paediatric Endocrine and Diabetes teams at St George’s Hospital. This is a locum full-time (10PA) post.
The postholder will share all duties involved in running this busy paediatric endocrine and diabetes service which receives tertiary, secondary and primary care referrals.
The successful applicant will work with the present team which includes 1 FT Paediatric Endocrinologist and Diabetologist, 1 PT Paediatric Endocrinologist and 1 PT Paediatric Diabetologist with an interest in Paediatric Endocrinology. The endocrine team is supported by 2 FT Paediatric Endocrine CNS, and the diabetes team by 3 WTE (2 FT & 1 PT) paediatric diabetes nurse specialists, 1 paediatric dietician, 1 paediatric diabetes psychologist and 1 designated diabetes coordinator. There is 1 WTE paediatric Endocrine junior doctor at ST6-8 level on the London SW Thames rotation.
St George’s paediatric department is a highly rated teaching and training centre and there is opportunity to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCPCH or equivalent
Desirable
- Relevant higher degree: MD or PhD
Training
Essential
- Completed or within 6 months of obtaining a recognised higher specialised training programme in General Paediatrics with accredited sub-speciality training in Endocrinology and diabetes (or able to demonstrate equivalent training)
- Child Safeguarding Level 3
- Paediatric Intermediate life support
Desirable
- APLS /PALS
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Experience in paediatric diabetes
- Experience in paediatric endocrinology at tertiary level
- Wide experience in paediatrics
Audit/Research
Essential
- Competence in and track record of performing clinical audit, service improvement projects and guideline development and review
- Research experience

- Able to initiate and carry out medical research projects
- Authorship of research papers
- Database management skills
Teaching

- Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors
