Job summary
This post is for a Locum Consultant in Plastic Surgery with a Skin Cancer and Head & Neck Oncology surgery interest (12 months FTC).
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Surgeon join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary care within the Mersey Regional Burns and Plastic Surgery unit based at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a whole-time post with a weekly peripheral site clinical commitment.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will have a responsibility for the running of their clinical service, integrating this with the department as a whole and ensuring appropriate communication with general practitioners, managers, and hospital committees. The appointee will be responsible for contributing to the achievement of relevant aspects if the Trusts contractual obligations and business plans.
The appointee will be expected to ensure their clinical service is in accordance with the principles of Clinical Governance which must include appropriate clinical audit, clinical targets, key performance indicators (KPI’s), evidence-based practice, continued personal educational and professional development.The post holder will also be expected to comply with existing appraisal procedures, job planning and revalidation procedures.

Qualifications
Essential
- Full GMC registration at the time of application
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCS (UK) or equivalent medical qualification
- FRCS (Plast) or equivalent
- Valid Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Provider Status
Desirable
- Member BAPRAS
Knowledge & Experience & Skills
Essential
- Evidence of achievement of competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice including: oGood clinical care oMaintaining good medical practice oGood relationships and communication with patients oGood working relationships with colleagues oGood teaching and training oProfessional behaviour and probity Delivery of good acute clinical care
- Demonstrate skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
- Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems.
- Experience in management of skin cancer with special interest in head and neck oncology
- Demonstrates the necessary range, depth, and breadth of competencies suitable for a Skin Cancer or Head and Neck Oncology post
- Evidence the number of independent SNLB’s, groin, axilla and neck dissections performed
- In depth knowledge and experience in skin cancer and head & neck surgery.
- Evidence of appropriate teaching experience within the last 3 years
- Demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication & capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation
- Able to build rapport, listen, persuade & negotiate
- Capacity to use logical/lateral thinking to solve problems/make decisions
- Capacity to work effectively with others
- Able to work in multi-professional teams
- Able to supervise junior medical staff

- Fellowship in Skin Cancer
- Fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology
- Demonstrates ability to undertake robust audit / research within team structure within the last 3 years.
- Evidence of relevant research e.g. presentations, publications in peer reviewed journals within the last 3 years relevant to plastic surgery and skin cancer surgery
- Evidence of relevant academic achievements, e.g. degrees, awards, in the last 3 years
