Job summary

This is a Locum 12-month Fixed term Consultant post based at the PRUH and south sites. The remit of this role will be to enhance the delivery Acute Radiology and Rapid Diagnostic Clinic Services at the PRUH site and support general Radiology workloads. The post holder will work within the multi-disciplinary team providing a range of Radiology services. A special interest in Cardiothoracic and MSK diagnostic imaging is also preferable. The department has rolled out a home reporting solution for all radiologists allowing for the potential of home reporting DCC sessions. In addition, the successful individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the Care Group while also having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff, medical students and associated professional groups. It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to the development and delivery of these services depending upon their interests and experience.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a proactive, compassionate and committed colleagues to share in the challenge of providing patient centred acute and specialist care. The department offers a broad range of sub-specialist opportunities such as the ongoing development within interventional radiology as well as specialist areas within head and neck, cardiothoracic, gastrointestinal and acute radiology.

This is currently for a 6PA post with the hope to increase PA availability at a future date. It is desirable to be fully registered with the GMC and hold Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage. On-call commitment will be aiming for 1:16, and CT scans are outsourced to a tele-radiology company over night on weekdays and throughout the weekend. Weekend on calls involves at least 3 hours onsite DCC each day to predominantly cover the acute ultrasound work.

Qualifications & Higher Qualifications

Essential

  • Registerable medical qualification Full FRCR or equivalent

Registration

Essential

  • Full Registration with GMC Training in Clinical Radiology

Desirable

  • Name on GMC Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment or on the day of interview applicants must be within 6 months of CCT

Training and Experience

Essential

  • Wide experience in all aspects of Radiology, culminating in award of Certificate of Completion of Training by GMC, or award of Certificate of Eligibility for Specialty Registration (CESR) by GMC.

Desirable

  • Specialist training in Cardiothoracic and MSK imaging

Administration

Essential

  • Experience in day-to-day organisation of Radiology services in a busy Teaching Hospital
  • Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills including the use of PACS
  • Familiar with current structure of UK National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes

Management and Leadership

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit.
  • Must have undertaken and completed audit projects.

Desirable

  • Management course and/or qualification
  • Audit Publications

Teaching

Essential

  • Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and exam preparation.

Desirable

  • Teaching skills course/qualification

Audit and Quality Improvement

Research and Publications

  • Experience of clinical research.
