We are looking for a skilled and motivated Network & Communications Engineer to help deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing network and communications services across the Trust. Working as part of our Technical Services team, you will play a key role in supporting the infrastructure that enables colleagues to provide high-quality care every day.

Main duties of the job

Support the delivery and ongoing performance of the Trust’s network, wireless, telephony, and communications infrastructure, ensuring services remain highly available, secure, and fit for purpose through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and continuous improvement.

Provide expert 3rd line technical support, troubleshooting and resolving complex infrastructure incidents while working closely with colleagues, suppliers, and stakeholders to maintain service continuity.

Design, implement, and support infrastructure projects, upgrades, and service improvements, ensuring solutions are resilient, scalable, well documented, and aligned to organisational requirements.

Apply specialist technical knowledge across networking, security, wireless, telephony, and mobile device management technologies while ensuring compliance with security, information governance, and operational best practice.

Contribute to incident, problem, and change management processes, supporting the delivery of safe, reliable, and effective digital services across the Trust.

Person Specification

Training and Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant IT related field or equivalent relevant experience
  • ITIL v4 Qualification

Desirable

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Fortinet NSE4
  • Aruba Certified Network Technician (ACNT)
  • VoIP Training and/or qualification
  • Microsoft Intune Training and/or qualification

Technical skills

Essential

  • Able to communicate with non-technical staff and explain IT issues in a manner they will be able to relate to, demonstrating patience, empathy and perseverance.
  • Ability to meet deadlines e.g SLA’s/KPI’s, report deadlines and project timescales.
  • Able to show initiative and make decisions, referring to senior staff where required.
  • Able to prioritise and organise their own work, completing in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Comprehensive understanding of network concepts, LAN/WAN/VLAN & wireless
  • Knowledge of VoIP & SIP implementation and support
  • Practical knowledge of configuring and maintaining: Routers & Switches, TCP/IP Networking, DNS/DHCP, Firewalls
  • Experience managing Android & iOS devices using Microsoft Intune or similar MDMs
  • Substantial & extensive “generic technology” problem solving skills
  • Ability to cope with conflicting demands and constraints, prioritising and organising their own work, to complete it in an accurate and timely manner.

Experience

Essential

  • 3rd Line Support Experience
  • Experience of specifying technical requirements to meet business needs
  • Experience of undertaking system implementations, upgrades and migrations
  • Experience in managing security systems such as Firewalls and VPNs.
  • Aruba switch and wireless networking experience, including installation, configuration and management.
  • Experience of working in Comms Rooms

Desirable

  • Experience working in an NHS organisation accessing clinical sites and NHS related networks such as HSCN.
