Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Adult Physical Health team. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to work across a variety of settings including acute hospital wards, rehabilitation services, community teams and patients’ homes, supporting adults with a wide range of physical health needs.

Main duties of the job

The Band 6 Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing a high-quality
Occupational Therapy Service within Adult Physical Health across inpatient, community and
home-based settings. The post holder will manage a defined caseload of adults with a range
of physical health needs, including those with complex presentations, using evidence-based
and person-centred approaches to assessment, intervention, rehabilitation and discharge
planning.

Working under the supervision of an Advanced Band 7 Occupational Therapist, the post
holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and may rotate across a range of clinical
areas, including acute medical, surgical, orthopaedic, inpatient rehabilitation and community
services. The role requires autonomous practice, effective clinical reasoning, and
collaboration with service users, carers and partner agencies to achieve agreed outcomes and
promote independent living.

The post holder will contribute to the delivery, development and evaluation of the
Occupational Therapy Service, support the supervision and education of students and junior
staff, and uphold professional, organisational, and regulatory standards inline with HSC
policies, procedures and CARE Values.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum Qualification:
  • Hold a Degree in Occupational Therapy or be a graduate of a School of Occupational Therapy recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
  • Current HCPC Registration.
  • Evidence of postgraduate CPD.

Desirable

  • Key Criteria:
  • The ability to evidence how HSCs CARE Values are applied in practice.
  • Demonstrable continuous post registration Occupational Therapy experience working as a Band 5, in Adult Hospital Ward and/or Adult Community-based settings.
  • Be proficient in a range of I.T systems such as Microsoft Word, Excel, TEAMS, outlook.
  • To be enthusiastic, with good interpersonal skills and experienced in working in multi disciplinary teams, where the contribution of the Occupational Therapy role is promoted.
  • A high standard of communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to deal with complex and challenging situations in a calm and diplomatic manner.
  • The ability to effectively prioritise own workload and that of others.
  • The ability to work autonomously and also as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Commitment to self-development and the development of others.
  • Adaptable and responsive to changing service needs.
  • Ability to deal with stress in self and others, recognising when support is required.
  • Experienced in supervision of Students and OT Assistants and assisting in the orientation of junior qualified OTs.
  • To be willing and able to work as part of a flexible OT Service and a wider multi disciplinary team in a variety of settings including: service users own homes, community settings, long term care areas, Service Users work place, as well as within the acute Hospital.
  • Knowledgeable in Occupational Therapy models and treatment approaches and able to critically evaluate implementation within clinical area in line with organisational policies and evidence-based practice principles.
  • Ability to self-manage, prioritise and delegate appropriately to manage own workload yet able to recognise the need for and seek support when necessary.
  • Have experience working in a multi-disciplinary team gaining an awareness of team dynamics and developed good interpersonal skills and the maturity/self-confidence to form effective working relationships.
  • Evidence of ongoing postgraduate CPD in accordance with HCPC and the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) guidelines.
  • To possess a full and valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle for business use.
