Job summary

This post holder will be responsible for the management of the Volunteer Car Service across Wales.

This role will contribute to building resilient communities as a consequence of involving public and community agencies in the provision of appropriate and safe services.

Communicating effectively with WAST Volunteers, staff representatives and managers and Volunteer Management team on a regular basis, both individually and at team meetings, establishing and maintaining good and productive two-way service relations. Monitor standards of performance and recommend measures to improve compliance and address any deficits identified of the volunteers.

Main duties of the job

  • The role contributes to volunteer management, performance monitoring and continuous improvement through effective leadership, communication and governance, including oversight of training, wellbeing, assets, medicines and compliance with policies and standards.
  • Acting as a key link between operational delivery and service management, the post holder identifies issues, escalates risks appropriately and supports learning from incidents and concerns.
  • The role has a direct impact on volunteer wellbeing, service resilience and the Trust’s ability to deliver safe, sustainable services that support community resilience and organisational priorities.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Educated to Degree Level in a relevant subject or able to demonstrate significant equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of Ambulance Care procedures, gained through practical experience (e.g. within an ACA or JCC role)
  • ILM Level 4 or equivalent professional experience.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of managing volunteers and employees within a complex organisation, including supporting performance, wellbeing and development
  • Experience of influencing teams to deliver a shared agenda.

Desirable

  • Experience of working within or leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Project management experience.

Skills and Attributes

Essential

  • Able to communicate effectively with a wide and diverse range of stakeholders, tailoring messages to ensure information is clear, accessible and easily understood.
  • Track record of report writing.
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to handle sensitive situations particularly in a professional, tactful, and assertive.
  • Logical thinker with a creative approach to problem solving.
  • Able to work well under pressure, assimilate information quickly and make decisions, seeking support when required.
  • Demonstrates a compassionate, professional approach when engaging with staff, volunteers and stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Ability to use MS365 packages and systems, and confident in using data to identify issues.
  • Able to plan and prioritise workload in order to meet deadline and deal effectively with conflicting priorities.
  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
