Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Paediatric Dietetic team. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic registered dietitian with excellent communication and team working skills. With support from senior leaders, the successful post holder will contribute to the delivery of a Dietetic service to the Paediatric ward and outpatient clinics alongside a band 6 Dietitian. The post holder will eventually have responsibility for a weekly paediatric outpatient clinic following training as well as a specialist MDT allergy clinic. Once established in the this post there will also be the opportunity to contribute to other specialist clinics such as Cystic Fibrosis, Coeliac disease and IBD clinic with support from a band 7 Dietitian. Many of our specialist clinics are led by Paediatricians with input from a Paediatric Dietitian to give the best possible patient experience and high quality care.

In addition to a clinical service delivery, there will be opportunities for service improvement projects, resource development and audit.

Full training for the role will be provided and the post holder will be encouraged to participate in monthly CPD sessions within the paediatric team. The post holder will also have access to the wider Paediatric teaching sessions led by paediatricians and clinical nurse specialists.

This post offers the opportunity to progress from Band 5 to Band 6 on the completion of the required competencies.

Main duties of the job

To provide a specialist clinical dietetic service to a caseload of paediatric patients to the ward and in outpatient clinics at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Examples of experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience managing own workload
  • Supervision of junior staff and/or students

Desirable

  • Experience in dietetics across a wide range of areas including paediatrics
  • Evidence of experience in dietetic inpatient work within the NHS

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Dietetics/Post Graduate qualification or relevant experience
  • Current HCPC registration as a registered dietitian

Desirable

  • Postgraduate training in paediatrics
  • Member of British Dietetic Association

Knowledge

Essential

  • Sound clinical knowledge of general dietetics including relevant national policies and guidelines
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex medical and nutritional information
  • Evidence of effective working within an MDT

Desirable

  • Knowledge of dietetic management of paediatric patients
  • Knowledge of dietetic management of paediatrics in Cystic Fibrosis, Gastroenterology, Food allergy and/or oncology.

Personal Skills

Essential

  • Able to respond to situations in a working environment where being adaptable and flexible to accommodate clinical and operational pressures is essential.
