Job summary

Applications are invited for a full-time 10 PA (8DCC:2SPA) Consultant Paediatric Intensivist with an on-call commitment on the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust. The consultant will join the existing fabulous team of consultant paediatric intensivists covering the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. Part time or full-time working will be considered. GOSH PICU has a significant research focus, and established tracheal/airway, haemato-oncology and neuroscience practice.

The successful candidate will be a thoughtful, compassionate intensivist, aligned with our new GOS-Trust values. They will have full GMC registration with a licence to practice and be on the specialist register or within six months of CCT at time of interview. Portfolio pathway applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application. All applicants must possess a relevant qualification e.g. MRCP, or MRCPCH, or FRCA and have a minimum of two years approved training in paediatric intensive care medicine, including transport medicine, or be an existing practising consultant in an equivalent paediatric intensive care unit.

Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a Licence to Practice (obtained by designated start date)
  • On the GMC’s Specialist Register OR within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview Note: CESR applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application
  • MRCP, or MRCPCH, or FRCA
  • Completion of all competencies in Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine (minimum of 2 years) in a unit approved for training by the RCPCH National GRID training program with evidence that this has been signed off OR equivalence OR an existing Practicing Consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine (substantive)
  • Higher degree – PhD, MD or equivalent
  • If not a UK grid trained, specific experience of cardiac intensive care medicine

  • Extensive experience in Paediatric Intensive Care
  • Experience of teaching students and multi-disciplinary team
  • Published research in peer reviewed journals in relevant area
  • Experience of leading in Clinical Audit processes
  • Awareness of the importance of Clinical Governance through experience of participating in quality or safety improvement projects
  • Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training
  • Valid BLS Training
  • Valid APLS or equivalent

Desirable

  • Neonatal intensive care experience
  • Experience of working in clinical networks
  • Experience of clinical leadership or management
  • Experience in several different intensive care units
  • Recent cardiac intensive care experience
