Job summary
This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic Paediatric nurse with an interest in Respiratory and Allergy nursing to join an innovative team of Paediatric and Atopic specialist nurses. The successful applicant will work as part of the team providing comprehensive care packages for children and young people with Respiratory and Allergic conditions, both in the hospital and community settings throughout Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB), to meet the changing needs of the Respiratory and Allergy service.
The post will link Community and Primary Care Services using joint protocols and guidelines.
The post holder will participate in the delivery of education for Health Professionals, schools as well as for children and their families within the Respiratory and Allergy Service.
This Post will be based between Royal Glamorgan Hospital and Princess of Wales Hospital managing caseloads alongside the CNS and wider multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve working as a member of the Children’s Nursing Team to deliver responsive and flexible care and support to children and young people with respiratory and allergic disease, including eczema in a diverse range of settings, across all Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB). They will assess, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care for individual children. Provide specialist advice and education of a high quality which is child and family centred, and is based on assessed need which promotes social inclusion.
Participate in Health promotion initiatives relating to respiratory and allergy disease. Participate in standard setting and the audit process including the continuing development of protocols for management of children. Participate in quality improvement initiatives. Support and educate colleagues and other health care professionals involved in the care of children and young people. Support and participate in aspects of education, including individual and group education. Participate in Consultant led clinics and facilitate and perform investigations relevant to the post e.g Oral food challenges and lung function tests. Nurse led clinics for Asthma and Eczema will be an intergral part of the role relevant competencies achieved.
Communicating highly sensitive, complex information surrounding diagnosis, prognosis and treatment on a regular basis forms part of this role so a professional compassionate attitude is necessary .

Welsh language skills
Desirable
- Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above
Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Children’s Nurse
- Professional knowledge acquired through Degree level relevant to healthcare.
Desirable
- Teaching qualification or evidence of teaching experience within existing or previous role
- Good underpinning theoretical and practical knowledge of caring for children with Respiratory and Allergic disease.
Experience
Essential
- Significant post registration experience working within an acute paediatric setting
- Acute or community experience of working with Children with Respiratory and Allergic disease.
Desirable
- Experience of Quality improvement and Audit process
- Ability to deal with complex and difficult emotional situations.
