Job Summary
Our Ophthalmology Department provides tertiary services to the population of Northeast London and works collaboratively with other ophthalmology teams at the other major hospitals in London.
We are currently seeking a motivated PCC. This is an important post within the department, and we are hoping to recruit an innovative and committed colleague who is keen to work with the wider team to support the ophthalmology service at The Royal London Hospital.
The post-holder forms part of a team of 5 administrators and covers paediatric and adult ophthalmology services.
The service is supported by an experienced Senior PCC, Service Manager and Service Delivery Manager.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the provision of an effective administrative and secretarial service to the paediatric and adult ophthalmology consultants and their teams based at the Royal London hospital. He/she will liaise with the multi-disciplinary team, internal departments and external agencies to ensure continuity in achieving excellence in patient care.
This job description is generic, and posts will differ in emphasis depending upon the size of the Consultant’s clinical practice and administrative team. Therefore, this post may develop over time to meet the specific needs for the service.

Qualifications
Essential
- English and Maths GCSE
- ECDL or equivalent experience i.e. experience of a range of IT package such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
- A Level or equivalent standard of education

- Supervisory or office management skills equivalent to certificate level

- You must have previously worked in a medical secretarial role or equivalent non NHS post.
- Highly developed communication skills, with experience of dealing with patient’s anxiety in a reassuring manner
- An ability to communicate professionally at all levels
- A proven record of being able to work within set timeframes working to priorities and deadlines
- Methodical and logical approach to work prioritisation and planning
Desirable
- Understanding of Cerner Millennium, G2 Speech recognition, Medisight
Knowledge

- A good level of medical terminology acquired through education, training or work experience
- Acts in a way that is consistent with legislation, policies and procedures and promotes the Trust Health and Safety policies
- Experience of assisting in maintaining a healthy, safe and secure working environment for self and others
- Understanding of Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act
- Knowledge of Human Rights, Equality & Diversity policies and procedures
