Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Northumbria Primary Care for a Band 4 Registered Pharmacy Technician to join the team, supporting a group of GP practices within our North Northumberland Neighbourhood (NPC Rothbury, NPC Amble and Broomhill, NPC Widdrington). The successful candidate will work closely with clinical and administrative colleagues to process a wide range of medication related tasks. The successful candidate will be expected to work between Rothbury and Amble. A base site will be agreed and mileage can be claimed from base site – the postholder must have business insurance on their policy.

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive primary care medicines management system acting on current best practice. The Pharmacy Technician will be required to undertake activities predominantly within practice, but will need to be flexible to work to the wider demands of the network.

Main duties of the job

The role will contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of medicines to patients e.g. medicines supply, actioning of discharge summary medication changes, liaising with care homes regarding prescription queries and supporting the organisation move towards online prescription services. An understanding of primary care operations and use of SystmOne would be an advantage but is not essential.

Person Specification

Qualifications / Professional Registration

Essential

  • BTEC in pharmaceutical science or NVQ Level 3 supported by appropriate underpinning knowledge e.g. national certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent qualification.
  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Desirable

  • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development.
  • To hold CPPE PCPEP qualification. If not held will need to be complete within 24 months.

Experience and knowledge

Essential

  • Previous relevant experience working in Pharmacy
  • Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
  • Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods

Desirable

  • Experience of working in primary care, or with primary care teams
  • Previous medicines management experience
  • Audit experience

Other requirements

Essential

  • It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. However, the Trust would consider making reasonable adjustments to the role, if necessary, to enable a disabled person to undertake the role
