Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist within the Haematology Laboratory at UHB. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, forward-thinking individual, to help deliver a high-quality, first-class service to our users.

This busy department receives over half a million requests annually, providing a twenty-four-hour diagnostic and monitoring service. The department is the nominated Coagulation laboratory for the West Midlands Regional Haemophilia comprehensive care service, a designated Transfusion Trauma Centre and established military training facility. The laboratory is ISO 15189 and HCPC/IBMS accredited.

The ideal candidate must be a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. You must have UK laboratory experience with a specialist interest in Haematology, having a sound theoretical and practical knowledge in all areas of Transfusion, Coagulation and Haematology including morphology. Further study, scientific posters and papers, and CPD are strongly encouraged and supported by our dedicated Haematology training lead.

Main duties of the job

Successful applicants will rotate through Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion and therefore must have an IBMS accredited Degree and HCPC Registration.

Currently the laboratory operates a 24/7 shift system. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the out-of-hours rota once fully trained, and have a thorough knowledge of UK regulatory bodies, such as UKAS, MHRA, & HCPC.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent academic achievement that is ratified by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)
  • State registration with Health Professions Council (HPC)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and proficiency in accordance with HPC guidelines.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in clinical laboratories.
  • Experience of laboratory techniques and automation
