Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and progressive Pharmacy Technician to join our team in the newly created post of Principal Pharmacy Technician – Procurement and will be based at either our Bassetlaw Hospital or Doncaster Royal Infirmary Pharmacy Departments, but will be expected to work across both sites.

Both departments are fully automated providing a stock supply service as well as dispensing for inpatients and discharges. Additionally, the Pharmacy at Bassetlaw provides a dispensing service to a small amount of outpatients as well as being the base for the Pharmacy Homecare Service; while the Pharmacy at DRI has a WDL and provides stock supplies to third parties.

The successful applicant will be expected to work closely with other section leaders across both of the sites as well as the Purchasing Team which they will manage.

You will need to be a qualified Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC with extensive post qualification experience.

The working pattern is for 37.5hours per week on a Monday to Friday. Bank holidays are worked on a rota and are a full 7.5 hour day, these will be worked on the base site.

Weekends are subject to the site the post will be based on.

Main duties of the job

To oversee the purchasing and invoicing of all pharmaceuticals and non-pharmaceuticals by the Pharmacy Departments across Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on a daily basis.To ensure that all orders and invoices are processed accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner.To act as a system super-user for the Powergate and Oracle systems.To take the lead in contract changes in the Wellsky and Powergate systems, delegating to appropriately trained staff as required.To manage allocated staff and resources including training and assessment.To manage relationships with internal stakeholders and external providers.To attend regional meetings on behalf of the Trust.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post qualification experience
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Significant practical experience of rotational work within a Pharmacy

Desirable

  • Hospital Pharmacy experience
  • Experience of automated dispensing systems
  • Team leading experience
  • Previous experience of managing staff
  • Theoretical knowledge of procurement issues relevant to Pharmacy
  • Experience of using Wellsky and Powergate
  • Previous Pharmacy purchasing experience

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • BTEC National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences/NVQ3 in Pharmaceutical Skills or equivalent
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Desirable

  • Accredited Checking Technician
  • Management qualification
  • ECDL or equivalent
