Job Summary
We have an excellent temporary opportunity for a highly skilled Principal Oracle DBA to join our team and to work help us drive forward the Trust’s Data Warehousing and Cloud-first strategies whilst we are implementing a new Patient Administration System.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and forward thinking individual who possesses highly expert technical knowledge of Oracle and Oracle architecture, combined with excellent proven mentoring and leadership skills.
The successful candidate will be based at the City Hospital Campus, will be working closely with the current SQL DBAs as well as the Infrastructure and Software Development teams, and will be expected to provide extensive in-depth technical expertise, leadership, guidance and support to the Trust in the architecture, maintenance, upgrading, and troubleshooting of existing Oracle databases (including, but not restricted to, the Trust’s DHR solution), as well as the architecture, configuration, tuning, and delivery of new Oracle databases and other new database tools and technologies.

Training & Qualifications
Essential
- A relevant IT degree at MSc level or above, or equivalent technical qualification & experience.
- Management/leadership qualification or training/experience
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) in relevant versions of Oracle Database (e.g., Oracle Database 8, 11g, 19c, 21c)
Desirable
- Project Management Training (Prince2, Agile)
- ITIL Foundation certification for IT service management.
Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Oracle Database Administration
- Experience in PostgreSQL/MySQL database administration, including experience in using Patroni for HA PostgreSQL clustering
- In-depth hands-on experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager and other Oracle tools.
- Advanced performance tuning and optimisation of Oracle, MySQL, Postgres
- Experience in implementing backup and recovery strategies, (RMAN, Data Guard)
- Experience in implementing high availability and disaster recovery (RAC, Active Data Guard)
Desirable
- Familiarity with containerization & orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with Oracle Forms
- Knowledge of Percona, performance monitoring/backup
- Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
Communication and Relationship skills
Essential
- Excellent oral and written communication and motivational skills, communicating with clarity, enthusiasm, commitment and conviction.
- Strong communicator who is experienced at and able to lead/chair meetings at a senior level
Desirable
- Proven mentoring and coaching skills
