Job Summary

York and Selby Early Intervention for Psychosis Team is looking to recruit a qualified Psychological Therapist in CBT (Band 7) trained in working with people with psychosis and bipolar. Qualified CBT Therapists without this additional qualification would also be considered and suitable training in CBT for psychosis would be supported, as this is an essential requirement for this role. A willingness to engage in further study and practice towards eventual accreditation as a CBT therapist with specialist competences in psychosis and bipolar is essential.

If we are unable to recruit a qualified therapist, we will consider applications for a Trainee Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (Band 6). The trainee post will involve undertaking a 2 year post graduate diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis and Bipolar. Upon successful completion of the post graduate diploma, the post holder would be upgraded to a Band 7 Psychological Therapist role and salary. The offer of trainee post to the successful applicants will be contingent on successful application to post graduate diploma course. Successful applicants will be supported with the application and selection process.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established Psychological Professions group within an Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Service. EIP teams in TEWV works to improve the detection of first episode of psychosis and to provide high quality, evidence- based interventions to facilitate recovery for individual experiencing first episode psychosis. The service works with people aged 14 -65 years. The post holder will report directly to the EIP Team Manager and will be professionally accountable to the Psychological Professions Lead. The individual will be able to provide one to one therapy within local NHS bases as well as within the local community. Therefore, there is a requirement to be able to travel.

The team is based in York covering the geographical area of York and Selby. The service operates the working hours 9-5 Monday to Friday. This is a full-time position.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Practitioner or First Accreditation as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) BABCP Registration Number
  • A qualification that leads to registration with a professional regulatory body (HCPC, GMC, NMC or Social Work England) AND current registration with this professional regulatory body. (If a different regulatory body please seek advice from Chief Psychological Professions Officer)
  • Or A Knowledge Skills Attitude (KSA) equivalence portfolio approved by BABCP as part of your Accreditation as Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) Be able to provide evidence of KSA Approval from HEI or BABCP

Experience

Essential

  • Experience Delivering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Experience in discussing and responding to issues related to cultural diversity, intersectionality and inclusivity, including working with vulnerable groups (e.g. those for whom English is not their first language).
  • Experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Assessing and managing risk of self harm/ suicide

Knowledge

  • Evidence- based practice relevant to the role
  • Risk assessment and risk management
  • Awareness of systemic barriers to accessing psychological services/healthcare for minoritised communities
  • Clinical governance

Essential

  • FOR TRAINEE A core profession as recognised by BABCP
  • FOR TRAINEE Registered with a professional regulatory body (HCPC, NMC, GMC, Social Work England)
  • FOR TRAINEE For those with a CORE PROFESSION post qualifying experience in secondary care mental health settings is essential. OR An undergraduate degree in a relevant field to mental health
  • FOR TRAINEE NON-CORE PROFESSION substantial experience demonstrating a breadth of experience in two or more mental health settings to meet KSA requirements.
  • FOR TRAINEE Knowledge of the KSA requirements for accreditation
