The Imaging Service and departments exist to provide support to the clinicians in charge of the medical care and treatment of patients attending the Trust. It aims to do this speedily and to provide interpretation and advice on results. The department supports the teaching functions of the Trust and its commitment to the research and development of new modalities. The Imaging department work within a high quality management system and had been awarded UKAS QSI Accreditation.

This band 6 Senior Staff Nurse role is for those not simply interested in the routine, day-to-day nursing positions, which may be offered elsewhere. The post is ideal for a nurse who has IR, Cath lab, theatre or recovery experience, sedation or anaesthetic nurses, and nurses with pain management experience.

Main duties of the job

Interventional Radiology provides necessary training and practice skills for a broad range of specialist procedures.We are seeking senior nurses who wish to work at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital so that people who put patients first but are also keen to invest in themselves and the organisation surround them. The Trust has a commitment to develop our radiology nurses by exposing them to all Imaging and IR specialised procedures including:

Uterine Fibroid Embolisations

Paediatric Interventions

Sclerotherapy

IR under General Anaesthetic

Radio-Frequency Ablations

Varicocele embolisations

Prostate Artery Embolisations

SIRT (Selective Internal Radiation Therapy)

TIPS

CT and Ultrasound guided biopsies

Picc line, Hickman line and Portacath insertions

Gastrostomy insertions

On offer is a range of working patterns throughout the week and an on- call commitment which provides a lucrative incentive in addition to the basic salary. In addition co-operating with the need for occasional and necessary overtime to ensure that any procedure in progress can be completed safely and in the usual fashion, such as extra working time usually being compensated by time in lieu or overtime payment, in accordance with line management.

Essential

  • Unfailingly kind, treating everyone with respect, compassion and dignity
  • Responsive to, and supportive of, patients and staff
  • First level NMC registration
  • Evidence of on-going professional development Certificate in Intravenous drug
  • Intermediate life support certificate or to be obtained within one year of appointment
  • Experience in intravenous drug administration
  • IV Cannulation
  • Evidence of working well in a team

Desirable

  • Previous Interventional Radiology Experience
  • Experience in assisting with sterile procedures
  • Experience in ITU, Theatres, Recovery or Cath Labs
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Conscious sedation experience
