Main duties of the job

1. The role of the Registered Nursing Associate is to work with the multi professional team and the Registered Nurse to contribute towards the delivery and monitoring of clinical care in line with service and patient needs, as agreed with supervising clinicians.

2. Using the breadth of knowledge across fields of nursing the Registered Nursing Associate will provide holistic and person-centred care and support for people of all ages and in a variety of settings.

3. The Registered Nursing Associate will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, working within the sphere of nursing care and within aspects of the nursing process aligned to the Standards of Proficiency for Nursing Associates.

4. The Registered Nursing Associate will adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Councils code of conduct (NMC) and must meet the NMC Standards of Proficiency.

5. The post holder will support the Ward Manger/Department Leader in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care upholding patient dignity delivered with kindness and compassion.

6. The post holder will provide and monitor the nursing care for a designated group of patients whilst receiving care at NBT.

7. The post holder will promote a team nursing philosophy of care at all times and work with members of the wider multi-disciplinary team to ensure patient needs are met.

Person Specification

Education/Training/Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nursing Associate with Registration on the NMC register
  • Foundation Degree (FdSc) Nursing Associate Level 5
  • GCSE Grade A-C in Math’s & English or functional skills level 2 Math’s and English or equivalent

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate English language proficiency level required for this post
  • IT literate to include Microsoft word, Email, keyboard skills
  • Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development
  • Understands and acts in line with NMC professional standards for practice contained within NMC Code 2018
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate concerns to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice
  • Understands requirements for NMC professional Revalidation
  • Understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans

Work Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience of caring for acutely unwell patients in different settings – this can be as a student.
  • Evidence of working effectively as part of the immediate and wider team
  • Experience of providing and receiving complex or sensitive information
  • Prior experience in an acute setting

Desirable

  • Evidence of supporting other learners/staff where appropriate to role
