Job Summary

The post holder will provide specialist technical advice for the team and provide key technical advice to supplement the strategy.

Maintain the efficient and effective running of 24/7 key infrastructure systems and will be responsible for the backup, monitoring and proactive rectification of faults identified in Desktop and Server hardware and software as well as:

  • Work closely with the Systems, Network, Applications, Development and Service Desk support teams in diagnosing faults, fault rectification and delivering infrastructure services.
  • Ensure all infrastructure services are installed and maintained in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Secure System Policies (SSPs).
  • Responsible for maintaining the integrity of HB User and Computer accounts, domain configuration where applicable and Infrastructure application servers, and hosted services. Presents issues and solutions to complex infrastructure problems.
  • Provides technical advice to the team communicate complex infrastructure server and client information to peers within infrastructure, network, and service desk teams. Management Of Services, Resources & Policy
  • Ensure all infrastructure systems are managed in accordance with Systems Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Secure System Policies (SSPs).o Responsible for installing, maintaining, and upgrading of IT equipment in line with departmental procedures.

 

Main duties of the job

General Management Analyses, investigate, and resolves complex infrastructure hardware and software problems.

Areas include:

  • Server and PC Hardware problems to component level.
  • Server Operating System and Infrastructure Server Applications configuration issues.
  • Software configuration, compatibility, and interaction issues.
  • Server and Network communication problems.
  • Perform regular examination of Server and network event logs for example, errors, unusual trends and provide appropriate corrective measures for any issues reported.
  • Ensure that work undertaken does not adversely impact the availability of business-critical systems.
  • Analyse user requirements and ensure appropriate subsequent hardware, software configuration and training, meets or exceeds expectations.
  • Be aware of the limits of one’s own and team knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Assess the security impact and implications of incidents and report to Line Manager accordingly.
  • Planning & Organisational Arrangements
  • Plan specialist infrastructure projects, for example storage, virtualisation etc, which may impact on Digital and non-Digital areas. Plan and implement new infrastructure systems as instructed by the senior manager.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential

  • Educated to Degree level in a relevant IT related subject or equivalent experience.
  • Microsoft Certification, CCA (Citrix Certified Administrator), VCP (VMWare Certified Professional). ITIL Foundation qualification accredited or working knowledge of service delivery, change control and risk management.

Desirable

  • Experience in dealing with complex IT issues in a large organisation
  • Hands on experience in troubleshooting connectivity issues between systems and networks.

Essential Aptitude and abilities

Essential

  • Excellent problem-solving and analysis skills with ability to think clearly and logically. Good letter, report, and documentation writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – able to elicit information from users, provide telephone support, advise, and coach staff in the use of IT. Explain technical issues in a clear and concise manner.

Desirable

  • Ability to travel within geographical area.
  • Able to work hours flexibly. Enthusiastic and motivated professional.
