An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Manager to join our dynamic multidisciplinary research team at the NIHR Clinical Research Facility based in Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. This cutting-edge Research facility provides a high quality, clinical environment, in which children and young people can take part in research programmes safely and effectively, according to robust and ethically approved protocols.
The post-holder will play a key role in supporting the delivery of a diverse portfolio of clinical research studies across the Trust. Working closely with research coordinators, investigators, research nurses and other clinical and non-clinical staff, the Data Manager will be responsible for the accurate collection, entry, validation and maintenance of clinical trial data, ensuring that study databases are complete, accurate and compliant with regulatory and protocol requirements.

Main duties of the job
The role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple studies simultaneously while maintaining high standards of data quality and confidentiality. Experience of clinical research data management, electronic data capture systems and working within Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines would be highly advantageous.
This position would be ideal for an experienced Data Manager with a background in clinical research who is looking to contribute to innovative paediatric research in a supportive and collaborative environment. Academic/Professional qualification/Training
Essential
- Qualified to ‘A’ Level/NVQ Level 3 standard or equivalent
- Knowledge of health information management acquired through a relevant specialist qualification or equivalent experience of information handling and analysis gained in a work environment
Desirable
- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline (i.e. science, health, health management, social science)
- Experience of working in a clinical trial environment in either a pharmaceutical company, NHS Trust or a university
- Good Clinical Practice training
- Electronic Health Record System training
Experience/Knowledge
Essential
- Experience of working on multiple parallel tasks to strict and often tight deadlines.
- Experience of managing information systems and developing databases and spreadsheets
- Experience of analysing complex information from databases.
- Relevant secretarial/administrative experience (ideally in a health care setting)
- Knowledge of GDPR
Desirable
- Knowledge of research methodologies and current national systems and structures for the approval, management and monitoring of clinical research in the NHS
Skills/Abilities
Essential
- Computer literate with good IT skills including the upkeep of databases
- Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels
- Able to handle sensitive and/or confidential information
- Able to transcribe data in a timely and consistently accurate manner with excellent attention to detail
- Able to work calmly under pressure and manage and prioritise own and others workloads whilst performing to tight deadlines
- Able to make sound judgements, use own initiative and work with minimal day-to-day supervision
