Job Summary
The post holder will be required to manage all aspects of the workload in the absence of a Band 7 Team lead and will be directly responsible, under their duty of care, for the planning, treatment and care of patients undergoing Radiotherapy.

Additionally the post holder works closely with Radiotherapy Physicists, Technicians, Oncologists, Dieticians, Speech Therapists, Nurses, Admin staff, other Radiographers and other professional groups to provide a thorough, efficient service encompassing all aspects of accurate Radiotherapy treatment delivery and patient care.
At interview, applicants who do not fully meet Band 6 requirements but demonstrate clear potential may be appointed at Band 5 on a developmental basis. The suitable candidates will enter a structured senior training programme for an agreed, time-limited period and will be responsible for completing all required competencies, with support from the departmental training and education lead. On completion of the programme and mandatory training, the post holder will progress to Band 6. If the programme is not completed within the agreed timeframe, the post holder will remain on the Band 5 pay scale until senior competency is achieved.

Main duties of the job
The post holder is part of a specialist team rotating through the pre-treatment and treatment areas of Radiotherapy. The post holder will work in a senior capacity, to support the team leader of the highly complex treatment unit, Brachytherapy unit, CT planning unit or pre-treatment liaison area.
Provide support to Treatment and Pre-Treatment team lead radiographers and manage all aspects of the service in their absence to ensure smooth and effective service and will be directly responsible, under their individual duty of care, for CT scanning, simple planning, treatment, time management and care of patients undergoing Radiotherapy procedures.
Provide daily supervision, education and training to junior staff, students and visitors.
Work closely with all MDT parties to provide a thorough, efficient service encompassing all aspects of accurate Radiotherapy planning, treatment delivery and patient care.
Adhere to all National and Local policies and procedures and be fully conversant in the IR(ME)R and IRR requirements for their clinical area and able to act as a point of reference for the department.
Will actively participate in service improvement, national and local clinical trials.
