Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for 2 newly qualified or experienced Band 5 physiotherapists tojoin our supportive, dynamic, and growing Physiotherapy team in our internationally renowned Cardiothoracic Hospital at Cambridge Biomedical Campus. We have one 10 month and one 12 month fixed term post available, during which you will gain experience in respiratory medicine and cardiothoracic surgery physiotherapy in our passionate, forward thinking, and friendly Physiotherapy team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate physiotherapist to join our team providing a comprehensive physiotherapy service to patients with a wide range of cardio-respiratory conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings across the following rotations:

-Cardiothoracic surgery

-Transplantation

-Cardiology & Cardiac rehabilitation

-Respiratory Medicine

-Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC).

-Critical Care

Please note that as the positions available are fixed term, you will not rotate through all clinical areas during this contract.

Main duties of the job

To provide a comprehensive Physiotherapy service to patients with a wide range of cardio-respiratory conditions in in-patient settings. To build on developed physiotherapy skills and consolidate specialist skills in cardiopulmonary physiotherapy required to manage these patient groups via 6 month rotational system.

Rotations are in the following areas:

Transplant & Cardiac Surgery,

Thoracic Surgery & Pulmonary Endarterectomy Surgery

Intensive Care

Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and Pulmonary Rehabilitation,

Respiratory Medicine including Bronchiectasis, ILD, Pulmonary Hypertension and Cystic Fibrosis

Cardiology & Cardiac Rehabilitation

Clinical support will be provided through mentorship by a Band 6 Physiotherapist. After completing the initial training, the post holder will be expected to participate in the seven-day working / on-call / late shift rotas as appropriate.

You will be part of a friendly, supportive, and proactive team, with a full induction and mentorship programme. We encourage and support staff with involvement in service development and audit. There are opportunities for staff to access specialist courses within the cardiothoracic field.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc/ Pre- Reg MSc/ Grad. Dip. in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration

Desirable

  • CSP member

Experience

Essential

  • Completed core medical respiratory and / or surgical ward or Critical Care rotations at Band 5 level or respiratory placements as a student
  • Knowledge of common cardiac & respiratory conditions and treatment options
  • Able to demonstrate basic clinical reasoning
  • Demonstrable proactive interest in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy
  • Ability to assess basic conditions, plan & implement non-complex treatments
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise own workload and develop autonomous practice with support.
  • Awareness of safe therapeutic handling.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills, including verbal, non-verbal, written and listening
  • Ability to be a team player
  • Ability to work under pressure with support.
  • Ability to problem-solve and make decisions.
  • Demonstrate experience of teaching and presentation skills.
  • Awareness of audit, service improvement or research projects.

Desirable

  • Experience of weekend working.
  • Experience of mentoring students or non-registered staff
  • Has undertaken relevant CPD in respiratory field.
  • Awareness of NHS priorities/AHP issues and initiatives
  • Awareness of current cardiorespiratory evidence base and guidelines
