An exciting opportunity has arisen within the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Partnership at Sheffield Children’s NHSFT for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic individual to join the paediatric mortuary service as a Band 6 Anatomical Pathology Technician.
The successful candidate will join the small but busy team to work in a recently renovated and expanded paediatric mortuary. The service conducts over 450 post mortems per year, covers up to 24 coronial areas and 20 hospital trusts for babies and children ranging from 12 weeks gestation to 18 years of age, including specialist forensic cases. The role is to provide a compassionate and high quality mortuary service in conformance with relevant legislation, HTA code of practice and guidance.
The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Partnership fully integrates the pathology services delivered on behalf of the Partner Trusts within the Integrated Care System (ICS) footprint; Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder is responsible for assisting in the provision of the Sheffield children’s hospital paediatric mortuary service. Individuals should be motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be well organised and hold Certificate & Diploma in Anatomical Pathology technology or Level 3 Diploma. Work in this area requires frequent exposure to highly distressing and emotive situations in addition to periods of intense physical activity with the need to maintain concentration for long periods.
Attention to detail, the ability to maintain confidentiality with a caring attitude and the ability to organise and prioritise work is required.
There is the need to lone work with a 1:3 on call and occasionally work under very challenging circumstances.
The post-holder will ensure that documentation and records are accurate and kept securely and will carry out duties to support the efficient running of the mortuary and keep up to date with HTA and UKAS related issues.
