Job Summary

The University Hospital of North Midlands, Mid Cheshire and East Cheshire NHS Trusts are working collaboratively to form a Pathology network in line with a NHSI directive.

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Anatomical Pathology Technologist to join our friendly team at Leighton Hospital.

Working with the Mortuary Manager you will have responsibility for delivering a full range of mortuary activities and take personal responsibility for the undertaking of all duties related to admission, identification and safe storage of deceased bodies for post mortem examination in accordance with the service procedures. You will assist the Mortuary Manager in supervising, coordinating and monitoring the performance and daily work schedules of all mortuary staff across Leighton and Macclesfield mortuaries within the framework of service requirements, including induction, training and professional development.

Main duties of the job

You will be:

Qualified to Level 4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology.

Able to easily always adopt a methodical approach to work and be able to prioritise your workload effectively.

You will assist pathologists with post mortem examinations in-line with protocols, including high-risk cases when required and work out of hours on forensic cases at Royal Stoke Hospital as and when required. You will work under the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) as a Person Designated (PD) supporting the Designated Individual and will share on-call duty.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in a Mortuary and Post Mortem Room environment
  • Knowledge of the Coroner’s and Medical Examiners system
  • Experience in all aspects of post mortem work
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, advanced autopsy procedures

Desirable

  • Knowledge of hospital departments & medical records

Skills

Essential

  • Management experience
  • Ability to plan and instruct junior staff
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Manual dexterity (as appropriate for post)
  • Attention to detail in record keeping, hygiene & health & safety
  • Understanding of confidentiality

  • Certificate and Diploma (pre 2014) Level 3 and 4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology
  • Good general education
  • Excellent standard of literacy and numeracy

  • Educated to GCSE level in Human Biology, English, Mathematics
  • Management qualification
