Job Summary

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to work as a Senior Assistant Psychologist within our Dementia Assessment Service based in Worthing at Swandean Hospital. The Dementia Assessment service is a multi-disciplinary team providing diagnostic assessment and post diagnostic support for people with suspected dementia, their families and carers. The postholder will work alongside and receive supervision from a Senior Clinical Psychologist and Principal Clinical Psychologist also in the team. You will be supported in thinking about how to achieve next steps in your career goals.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include assisting with neuropsychological assessment, e.g. administering cognitive assessments and supporting the neuropsychological assessment process. The post holder will deliver psychologically informed interventions under supervision, e.g. behavioural activation, anxiety management strategies, life story work, dementia psychoeducation etc. The post will involve supporting preventative measures e.g. competing hospital admission passports All about Me paperwork and wellbeing plans. The Assistant psychologist will also support the team with audit and evaluation work. The post will play a key role in the delivery of the Early Years Pathway for younger people facing a diagnosis of dementia.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Honours degree at 2:1 or above in Psychology, or equivalent. Eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartership with the BPS

Knowledge/Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with people with complex needs
  • Experience of working with people with disabilities, in a health or Mental Health setting and or work with people with complex needs
  • Relevant clinical and research skills
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Basic knowledge of databases, research skills and methodology
  • Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a health context
  • An understanding of psychology applied to health care
  • Experience of group work and individual therapeutic contact
