Job summary
We are seeking a motivated, hard-working, professional, and passionate Physiologist to join our Cardio-Respiratory Department.
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our friendly, supportive team, working across both Warrington and Halton Hospital sites. Our department undertakes a wide range of respiratory investigations, and we are looking for an individual who can work independently and contribute confidently to our service.
The successful candidate will be competent in all aspects of respiratory diagnostics, including:
- Full lung function testing
- Overnight polygraphy
- CPAP initiation and follow-up
We are looking for someone with strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a genuine enthusiasm for delivering high-quality patient care.
Main duties of the job
- To be competent in all routine investigations in the department including Spirometry +/- reversibility, respiratory muscle strength, full lung function test using nitrogen washout method and/or body box.
- Reviewing and signing off spirometry performed in community clinics and ensuring reports are sent out within deadline targets.
- To undertake fitting and analysis of limited channel sleep studies and overnight oximetry.
- Analyse and produce complex reports on limited channel and respiratory sleep studies to ARTP standards.
- To support the services as they evolve and change for the benefit of our patients.
- Provide CPAP treatment and change prescriptions as required.
- Provide administrative support as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Good pass in GCSE English and Maths.
- ARTP Spirometry Certificate or/willing to work towards
- Scientific Knowledge acquired through formal training to BSc Healthcare Science (Respiratory and Sleep) or Clinical Physiology or equivalent level
- AHCS Registration/eligibility
- ARTP membership
- BLS certificate
Desirable
- ILS certificate
- ARTP Part 1
- ARTP Part 2
- ARTP Full Practitioner certificate
Experience
Essential
- Minimum two years practical experience
- Familiarity with the range of basic and advanced clinical investigations in respiratory physiology.
Skills, Knowledge and Competencies
Essential
- Analysing polygraphy and overnight oximetry studies.
- CPAP clinics using auto and fixed pressure devices.
- Wide range of respiratory knowledge.
- Knowledge of Caldicott Guidelines.
- Knowledge of appropriate manual handling guidelines.
- Health and Safety awareness
- Experience training of junior staff both physiologists and medical.
- Good IT skills
- Competent in Performing PFTS
- Competent in reporting PFTS / Spirometry
Desirable
- Knowledge of Lorenzo, Airview, Prismacloud and Care Orchestrator
