We have two exciting opportunities to join the Tic Service as a clinical psychologist. The postholder will primarily be based in the multidisciplinary team that provides assessment and treatment to children and young people with Tourette syndrome and functional tics (and other complex neurodevelopmental disorders) and commonly co-occurring mental health disorders.

Supervision and line management is provided by a principal clinical psychologist.

Training will be provided and there are strong research and development opportunities on the team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of the team of clinical psychologists and wider psychosocial professionals within Psychological and Mental Health Services (PAMHS). The Tic Service was established to provide evidence-based assessment and treatment to children and young adolescents with complex tic disorders and other neurodevelopmental differences (e.g. autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and medical conditions with co-occurring mental health disorders at Great Ormond Street Hospital. They also provide assessment and treatment of children with complex tic symptoms in collaboration with local CAMHS and paediatric services nationally. There are strong community links held by the team and close working with local mental health services and other agencies.

The post holder will ensure the systematic provision of a high quality clinical psychology service to patients and families, across all sectors of care, providing specialist psychological assessment, complex formulation and evidence based interventions.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the flexible delivery of psychology services across the Trust, in response to new developments and organisational changes.

There is a requirement to utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research.

Essential

• Honours BSc in Psychology (minimum 2:1)
• Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS/HCPC, including clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, and lifespan developmental psychology.
• Eligibility for Chartered status and membership of the Division of Clinical Psychology
• Registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council as Practitioner Psychologist.
• Post-doctoral training and recorded CPD experience
• Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
• Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological and cognitive assessment, intervention and management.

Desirable

• Further qualifications in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice, particularly CBT.
• Experience of working with children with tic disorders.

Experience/Knowledge

• Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist at specialist level
• Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity
• Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care
• Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts and of working in a multicultural framework
• Experience and expertise with a specialist mental health client group
