Job Title: Senior Fellow in Gynaecological Oncology

Purpose for Fixed Term: Covering Maternity Leave

This post is appointed on a fixed-term basis for the primary purpose of providing structured training and supervised clinical development. While the postholder will contribute to service delivery, the overarching purpose of the post is to provide defined educational opportunities, supervised clinical practice, and experience aligned to the relevant specialty training curriculum

Main duties of the job

Applicants are invited for a senior special interest training fellowship post in Gynaecological Oncology within the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Princess Anne Hospital and University Hospital Southampton, commencing as soon as possible for 12 months with possible extension. This is a part time post.The main clinical duties of the post will be:

  • To gain relevant clinical experience in all aspects of the speciality of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • To deliver care in general obstetrics and gynaecology, including out of hours commitment (obs and gynae registrar rota).
  • Working alongside the established gynaecological oncology team to deliver outstanding care for our patients
  • Development of surgical gynaecology-oncology skills, including laparoscopic, open, cytoreductive and HIPEC skills.
  • Inpatient and outpatient management of gynaecological oncology patients
  • Participate in colposcopy, outpatient hysteroscopy/rapid access clinics

Person Specification

Qualifications, Training & Experience

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
  • MRCOG part 1
  • MRCOG part 2&3

Desirable

  • Previous gynae-oncology experience
  • Audits, publications and presentations in gynae-oncology showing commitment to the specialty

Aptitudes and skills

Essential

  • Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
  • Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors, and staff
  • Appropriate career progression consistent with personal circumstances and level of application. Evidence of CPD
  • Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English)
  • Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Ability to manage a busy high risk labour ward and O&G emergencies
  • Previous second on call O&G experience in Acute Hospital settings

Desirable

  • Previous experience of teaching and management
  • Evidence of training in O&G skills and drills eg PROMPT, ALSO, MOET
  • Experience in clinical governance
