Job Summary

The Norman Power Centre (NPC) is an off-site, purpose-built Therapy led unit run by University Hospitals Birmingham.

Named after Canon Norman Power, it has a rich history in providing out of hospital rehabilitation therapy.

32 en-suite single rooms with a gym and therapy facilities make up this specialist unit- where patients receive appropriate care and intervention whilst waiting for the next stage in their recovery.

Key to this, is our amazing Therapy team who work with clinical colleagues to ensure the very best care to the patients that rely on us.

We have a space within this critical workforce for an exceptional Senior Occupational Therapist (Team Lead) to co-ordinate and develop the clinical service and provide leadership to the therapy team consisting of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.

Main duties of the job

This varied, challenging and often rewarding role will see you manage a varied caseload requiring a multi-skilled approach with experience and knowledge of discharge planning.

As an experienced OT looking for your next career move, you will lead the team in the provision of assessment skills and treatment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions.

As an autonomous practitioner you will be passionate about Therapies, driven to improve patient outcomes with the ability to motivate and development colleagues.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in OT/ Dip COT
  • HCPC registration
  • Evidence of CPD including recent post graduate training relevant to clinical speciality.

Desirable

  • Evidence of leadership training.
  • Attendance at Clinical Educators Course.

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrates comprehensive clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients with complex needs in this speciality.
  • Significant experience within the relevant clinical area.
  • Experience of team/service development.
  • Experience of supporting and supervision of junior therapists, student therapists and assistants.
  • A specialist knowledge across a range of therapy practices, routine and non-routine, requiring expertise within the field of therapy.
  • Understanding of current legislation and application to Occupational Therapy.

Desirable

  • Experience of producing reports / data analysis

  • An ability to cope with moving/manoeuvring patients/equipment on a daily basis.
