A new opportunity has become available within the Radiotherapy Physics Department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for two Band 8A Senior Radiotherapy Physicists to join our friendly team.
We offer a contemporary Radiotherapy Service and have implemented several key service improvements including AI auto-contouring and surface-guided radiotherapy (SGRT). We have recently commissioned a new Varian Truebeam linear accelerator equipped with the UK’s first DoseRT system and have many exciting projects in the pipeline including moving our patient management system and treatment planning system to the cloud and several initiatives to improve both the efficiency and quality of our processes and treatments (e.g. RapidPlan, Scripting, Transit Dosimetry, QMS, QC management systems, 3D printing). We have a growing SABR program and are committed to improving the access to these techniques for all our patients
Main duties of the job
The core purpose of the post is to support all areas of the radiotherapy scientific service at an MPE level and to lead agreed scientific developments within the allocated sub specialism. The post holder will actively contribute to all areas of routine clinical service and assist the Head of Radiotherapy Physics and Deputies as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Honours degree (1st or 2nd class) in Physical Science
- Postgraduate M.Sc. degree in Medical Physics OR knowledge equivalent to that level
- Corporate member of IPEM OR knowledge/experience equivalent to that level
- HCPC Registered Clinical Scientist
- Approved as an MPE under RPA2000
- Minimum 6 yrs experience post-registration
Desirable
- Ph.D.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Able to act as an MPE in all areas of Radiotherapy Physics
- Formal management of junior scientific and technical staff
- Implementation of service developments
- Managing/conducting research and innovation projects leading to peer-reviewed publications/presentations
- Design/delivery of advanced practical and theoretical training to a wide range of staff
- Experience with Varian Treatment Machines and Aria/Eclipse
- Experience with Quality Control on a variety of machines/equipment
- Experience with Treatment Planning (checking, planning etc.)
- Experience with Treatment Machines and OIS/TPS from manufacturers other than Varian
Desirable
- Practice as an accredited MPE in a UK Centre
- Strong publication and presentation record (>3 Radiotherapy Physics in last 3 years)
- Experience with Halcyon/Ethos platforms
- Experience with online and offline IGRT
- Experience with Adaptive Radiotherapy Platforms & Tools (e.g. Ethos/EVO and DIR, synthetic CT tools)
- Scripting/programming experience (e.g. ESAPI, C++, Python)
