Job summary

Working as part of the Software Development team the post holder will be a software development specialist, with experience of developing and implementing technical software solutions to meet business requirements and support the organisation in the achievement of its strategic objectives. The software development team develop bespoke applications to support EEC where no ‘off the shelf’ solutions exist.

The post holder will ensure that projects produce the required deliverables within the defined quality, time and cost constraints and facilitate full realisation of benefits defined in the associated business cases which they may help develop. This will be achieved by adherence to relevant software development methodology and best practice within the profession.

The post holder will establish productive working relationships with colleagues within the organisation at all to facilitate the successful delivery of software solutions. The Senior Software Developer will be proficient with modern software development methodologies. They will also be proficient with version control.

In addition to software development the post holder is also expected to provide support for changes and development for the suite of applications delivered by the development team as and when appropriate.

Main duties of the job

Expertise and a proven track record in system design, application architecture, programming, procedural, declarative or structured querying programming language.

Technical knowledge of MS SQL relational databases, database design and the Structured Query Language.

Proven experience using Visual Studio to write software code and produce elegant, robust and maintainable software applications.

Proven experience using current C# ASP.NET versions 8 and above

A command of the principles of good software design using the principles of SOLID and object-oriented programming.

Practical experience using source control systems (i.e. Git).

Person Specification

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent level qualification in a numerate/analytical discipline or equivalent industry experience
  • Proven knowledge of high-level programming and version control techniques.

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of digital accessibility requirements.
  • Working knowledge of the Umbraco CMS

Experience

Essential

  • At least 5 years proven experience of software development in a healthcare or commercial setting.
  • Expertise and a proven track record in system design, application architecture, programming, procedural, declarative or structured querying programming language.
  • Proven experience using Visual Studio to write software code and produce elegant, robust and maintainable software applications.
  • Proven experience using current C# ASP.NET versions 8 and above.

Desirable

  • Experience in an NHS software development role

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • C# ASP.NET versions 8 and above, Entity Framework, LINQ, Razor pages, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, RESTful APIs
  • Technical knowledge of MS SQL relational databases, database design and the Structured Query Language.
  • Visual Studio IDE
  • Source control management (Git)

Desirable

  • MVC, React, TypeScript, Bootstrap
  • Azure DevOps (CI/CD), Azure Web App services
  • Progress Telerik Development Tools
